We were invited to a comped media event at Crisp Salad Company on lower Greenville to try out their chef-prepared salads before their grand opening on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Crisp Salad Company is a build-you-own salad restaurant also offering its salads as wraps or flatbreads, soups and mini cupcakes. They have a bunch of different dressings to try from (the creamy herb and avocado tzatziki seem to be the favs) that are mostly gluten-free and all made in small batches in-house daily according to owner Blaine Duhe.
I decided on one of their seasonal salads – the Shrimp & Corn that was dreamed up by the Baton Rouge-native owner. They salad was carefully assembled in a huge mixing bowl. The fresh heritage blend greens were topped with grilled shrimp off the skewer, grilled corn, grape tomatoes, feta cheese, fresh avocado and (easy) balsamic vinaigrette. The salad is then chopped down to size with a mezzaluna and placed in a eco-friendly plastic bowl you can either take to go or enjoy in the restaurant. I also grabbed a cup of their Organic Tomato Bisque soup which was sweet and creamy but could have been a bit warmer.
As I was finishing up, Blaine came by with some mini cupcakes from That’s Sweet which is typically known for wedding cakes, but is starting to branch out into other offerings. I tried the red velvet which was nice and moist, and the perfect two-bite sweet after a healthy lunch. The whole meal was quite enjoyable and I appreciated that everything was fresh, crisp and even included some local ingredients.
The staff really prides itself on its fresh ingredients, unique combinations, numerous options (including vegan-friendly proteins), and healthy food on-the-go. Keep up with Crisp Salad Co. on their Facebook page and check them out during their grand opening tomorrow!
