This holiday season we were invited to sample 4 of the Galleria’s signature restaurant’s for the second year in a row through their Taste the Holiday’s Galleria Dallas Dine-around event. With new flavor combos and offerings popping up all the time, it was nice to see that each of these awesome eateries brought something new and exciting to the table.

The carnivore in me always looks forward to a visit at The Grill on the Alley, where I consistently find that top-notch steaks are the centerpiece that I gravitate towards. This year, we sampled quite a decadent masterpiece of a New York Strip. Of course, a prime cut of perfectly cooked meat is a standard fare that is expected when visiting a restaurant with the word “Grill” in their name, but what is paired with it makes between a good ole fashioned steak dinner, and something memorable.

The Prime New York Pepper Steak with cracked pepper, bacon, and onion is such a dish. With a generous layer of caramelized onions and thick chunks of bacon atop a beautifully crusted and buttery strip, you’ve pretty much reached the epitome of the “bacon makes everything better” mantra. What separates this from bacon-wrapped everything else, is that it doesn’t feel like an afterthought. It doesn’t taste like the bacon and onions were just “tossed in there” for an extra kick. The flavors from each element dance around each other in your mouth, inviting you to savor every bite.

In a bit of round-about fashion, it’s important that we take a step back. Now that your mouth is watering over that steak, you’re probably about ready to head down to The Grill right now, but I’m going to have to ask you to hold on for just a second, for your own sake. You’re all ready to dive right in, and you haven’t even thought about the rest of the questions that you’re going to need to answer when you get there! So, slow down, and let’s plan this out.

You’ve got to pick an appetizer to set this thing in motion the right way. Crab fans can rejoice on this one. Check out the size of the chunks in this baby! This Jumbo Lump Crab Cake with Beurre Blanc Sauce is about as pure as you can get when it comes to crab cakes, with that divine sweetness shining through. No filler to speak of whatsoever.

At this point, I know you’re going to be giving yourself the post-steak pep talk, and you’ll be tempted to throw in the napkin, but I BELIEVE IN YOU! You want this meal to end up in the record books, and you can’t do that by bowing out before dessert, can you? Unfortunately, I forgot to get a picture before I ate it all, but to end our meal, I found their choice of a Key Lime Pie with raspberry puree to be just the right amount of sweet, with a little uplifting zing to end the show on an upswing. This, my friends, is what loving food is all about. Next time I stop in, I am definitely looking forward to trying their Roasted Australian Rack of Lamb. Man that sounds awesome!
