The Bonefish Grill, which officially opened June 22nd, is the newest addition to the growing shopping center called The Village at Fairview. (I think the city is considered Allen or Fairview depending on if youre on the north or south side of Stacy and 75.) This bustling area has a variety of shopping, restaurants and entertainment to fill your day.
Specializing in market-fresh fish prepared over a wood-burning grill, Bonefish Grill also offers beef or pork as well as salads, bowls and even wine pairing with a dish of your choice. Bonefish Grill classifies their restaurant as a ˜polished casual dining experience. They want you to enjoy a 5-star meal and ambiance without making you pay the price. (We can all appreciate that.) Its a casual concept with a few details that give it a high-end atmosphere. In my opinion, it works.
Other restaurant chains owned by Bloomin Brands, Inc. are Outback Steakhouse, Carrabbas Italian Grill, Flemings Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar and Roys. (mmm Roys) Bonefish Grill originated in Florida 15 years ago and has grown to around 200 restaurants across the US with only 3 in Texas so far.
Appetizers we tasted were the Lobster Flatbread and the super popular, Bang Bang Shrimp. The Bang Bang Shrimp is simply, lightly fried shrimp tossed in a creamy spicy sauce. Everyone I mentioned this restaurant to stated the Bang Bang Shrimp is a MUST try. I concur.
The cocktails made me feel like I was on a beach vacation. I felt their Florida roots shine through their seasonal summer beverages such as the Fresh Watermelon Icicle Aphrodisiac Martini and the Summer Kiwi Smash. You can have a stay-cation with the Watermelon Martini at home using their recipe, as they were nice enough to share with us.
Watermelon Martini
(recipe is for 1 serving)
Ingredients: Volume:
Your Favorite Vodka 1.5 oz
Cucumber Slices 2 each
Fresh Watermelon 2 cubes each
Simple Syrup .25 oz
Fresh Sour Mix .50 oz
Procedure:
Combine the watermelon cubes, cucumber slices and simple syrup in a glass and muddle well. Add your favorite vodka, and fresh sour mix. Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass! Garnish with frozen watermelon cubes or a fresh cucumber slice.
Secrets to Shake it Up:
- Really impress your friends by making your own refreshing cucumber vodka! Slice a cucumber and place in your favorite vodka and allow to infuse for 24-48 hours.
- If you like your cocktails on the sweeter side add a bit more simple syrup.
- Like Margaritas? Substitute Tequila for Vodka and increase your sour mix to 1.5 ounce, shake and strain over ice into a glass with a salt rim!
The Cilantro Lime Shrimp Salad included succulent grilled shrimp on a layered bed of greens, grape tomatoes, roasted corn, black beans, feta, red onion and drizzled with a light cilantro lime vinaigrette. They actually bring the layered dish out in a cylinder and while tableside, gently pull it off while making everything lay nicely on the plate. Talk about high-end service.
Fill up with Blackened Baja Fish Tacos with three fish tacos in warm tortillas, finished with fresh romaine, mango salsa, lime crema and fresh herb pesto.
One of my favorites was the Ahi Tuna Steak with the Pan Asian Sauce. It melted in my mouth and the sauce paired with the tuna perfectly. Other signature sauces available to top your wood-grilled fish: Mango Salsa, Lime Tomato Garlic, Herb Pesto, and Lemon Butter.
Im always down for a liquid dessert. Their espresso martini with a delicious rim of sugar and chocolate shavings ended the evening with a kick in all the right places.
Espresso Martini
Vanilla Vodka, Kahlua, Crème de Cacao, fresh brewed espresso
