On behalf of Dallas Food Nerd, I was invited to visit Ista Indian Cuisine in Flower Mound. Ista just celebrated its first anniversary, and they serve fine Indian food fused with many flavors.

Ista offers an array of menu items including many vegetarian choices. I sampled the lunch buffet yesterday.

Appetizers

The appetizers included two different vegetable soups, a house salad, a salad full of tasty chickpeas, a savory spinach dip (Palakpaneer) and a creamy cheese dip (Malai Kofta).

Ista makes its own naan (flat bread) from scratch, and it was so appetizing with my meal. I’m a big fan of naan!

Lunch Items

I sampled a variety of items for lunch- many which were very new to me. The chicken tandoori (pictured below) is one of the most popular items offered at Ista. The chicken had a mild, juicy taste which satisfied my taste palate right away. To accompany the many meat items there were white rice and rice dumplings (pictured below). The Methy Vada ( the circular mixed vegetable item pictured below) was light and flavorful.

A variety of additional chicken, fish and vegetarian options (some mild and some spicy) were also included on the buffet line.

My favorite item was the Bhaugan Bhartha (fried eggplant). The size was a similar to a small chili pepper.

Desserts

Now to my favorite part, dessert! First I tasted a delicious fried cheese ball that looks and tastes like a sweet donut hole. This was soaked in a sweet syrup to add more flavor. I also tried the creamy and chilled white rice pudding, a traditional Indian and Mediterranean dessert. And to satisfy my sweet tooth even more, I ate some bites of honeydew. There were additional fruits, vegetables and a mango custard available as well.

Whether you are a seasoned fan of Indian cooking, or wish to experience the flavors of the subcontinent (like I did!), Ista hopes to satisfy your culinary cravings. The servers were attentive, friendly and always bringing me more yummy naan. The lunch buffet is $9.99/person and on the weekends it’s $10.99. The dinner menu can be viewed here. Ista also offers catering. If you’re in the Flower Mound area I highly recommend you visit Ista!

(Disclaimer: I was provided a complimentary weekend lunch buffet in exchange for a review. All thoughts are my own.)
